Why a large light item can cost more.
Carriers can compare the actual packed weight with dimensional weight. A common dimensional formula in centimetres and kilograms is length × width × height ÷ a carrier-specific divisor. The divisor and limits must match the actual service.
A worked example.
A 40 × 30 × 20 cm parcel has a volume of 24,000 cm³. At a divisor of 5,000 its dimensional weight is 4.8 kg. If its actual packed weight is 2 kg, a service using the larger figure would rate it at 4.8 kg before its rounding rules. This is an illustration, not a live shipping quote.
Weight bands do not prove that an item fits.
The final box must also pass the service’s maximum length, girth and weight limits. Item volumes added together do not prove that shapes can be packed into one box. Protection for breakable or crushable goods adds space.
When we need a packing review.
If measurements are missing, an item is bulky or fragile, or a box exceeds the selected service’s limit, delivery needs a manual check. We will not silently substitute product net weight for packed weight. Final carrier limits and presets are confirmed before a paid order is accepted.
